Response to a Christian Friend About Same Sex Marriage and to the Christians Who are Uncertain About This Topic Part II

(Please read Part I before beginning Part II)

Mark 10:9 reminds us “Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.” The Pharisees was trying to trap Jesus about men divorcing their wives. During Jesus time, it was common for men to divorce their women for anything wrong. They could be divorced from bad cooking to bad dressing. Women were treated as rags to be thrown at any time. Jesus reminds them of something so sacred and holy to God, that He had to go back to the beginning of creation to say, “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ so they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” Men throughout history, has not kept God’s “sacred” laws intact. Mankind has failed miserably because of our sin nature. Jeremiah 17:9 reminds us that “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Who understands the human heart? Only God can.

No person in history have fully understood the human nature, thus the reason why God gave us the Holy Bible to help us understand God’s heart and what He considers “sacred” is to be placed in our hearts to protect us and not to harm us. Thus, if we lose the sight of what God considers “sacred” then we either throw out or fight for what Jesus believes in. God commands us with very strong words in Revelation 3:15-16 that we should either be cold or hot and not to be lukewarm, because if we are “lukewarm” God himself will spit us out of His mouth. So, I’ve decided to stand up for the truth and be an ambassador for Christ (2 Cor. 5:20). Will you become an ambassador for Jesus Christ? The prophets of the Bible were ridiculed, persecuted, stoned, and jailed for speaking up for God and His truth and not thinking like everyone else. They were not well liked for believing in God’s truth. I know that I will not be well liked for standing up to His truth.

God has made a marriage between MAN and a WOMAN, sacred, “What therefore GOD HAS JOINED TOGETHER, let no man separate.” The creator of our universe has given us a standard throughout the Bible. If our school system has no standard, then we do not know what our children needs to achieve towards to or is aware of failings. Today, we even have standardized testing and benchmark testing throughout the United States. These standards determine whether schools are doing what their created to do. What is “sacred” to God is the standard for believers to work towards. He knows we are not perfect and we read this throughout the Bible. Because of His grace, He has given unto us His Holy Spirit to guide, direct, comfort, counsel, reveal His truth in His Word, and insights to live a life towards holiness. Because of our sin and rebellious nature, we deserve death, but once we voluntarily opened our heart to Him, God changes us to be more like Him.

Ephesians 2:1-9 (ESV)
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

God has given us a clear understanding of what is very sacred to Him. Thus he reminds us in 1 Peter 1:16 “Be holy because I am holy.” The Bible teaches that God is a holy God. The meaning of holiness is “separation” or “cut off” from the world. God desires for those who accept Jesus Christ to belong to a new family and that’s God’s family because the world is dark and only light can separate the dark. God commands us to be separate from the world and gives us His grace which is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). He desires for us to be cut off from everything that is sinful and evil. 1 John 1:5 tells us that “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” Light and darkness cannot co-exist. The Bible tells us to “hate what is evil; cling to what is good” (Romans 12:9). When we are confused we cannot hate evil nor cling to what is good, because we do not have anything to differentiate it. There are no standards or righteous morals but God’s standards are not like the worlds. What is sacred and holy to God is and should be sacred and holy to us. Though we are not perfect and we all fall short of glory of God (Romans 3:23), God reminds that we should strive towards to be more like Jesus in His righteousness. Lose what God considers “Holy” and “Sacred,” then we lose the sight of God’s transformation power in our hearts because we have none of God’s standard to achieve and aspire towards.

What will you say when you are in front of Jesus? “I have worked hard to help same sex people get married and change conservative Christian pastor’s minds to support same sex marriage agendas.” Will you hear the Master say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matt 25:21)? Or, will you hear Him say, “I’m glad you worked hard as a spokes person for Evangelicals for Marriage Equality.” Maybe, some of you who are reading this blog for the first time and are saying, “I don’t want to get involved with these kinds of arguments,” Or, “I didn’t want to get involved because it is too political,” “I don’t like politics.” When has God’s morals become a topic for everyone to vote on? Why should God’s moral standards become political? Are we making MOCKERY of God’s “sacred” and “holy” doctrines that has kept us from Satan’s attacks. Are we not seeing this as a spiritual warfare, twisting the “Holy” Bible to fit the needs of an agenda group. Remember God reminds us to wage war against the evil one (Ephesians 6:10-18). There is a war going on and the battle for our hearts and minds is here to stay till the second coming of Christ. Till then, the only true moral standard that we can live our lives is through the Holy Bible.
